What does the axial-glide system change?
The articulated arm replaces long rear rails, reducing the depth needed behind the saw while retaining a wide crosscut path. That makes the mechanism valuable on a wall-side bench.
Compact rear clearance does not make the whole tool compact. The table, fences, arm sweep and stock supports still require a carefully measured station.
Why is it suited to molding work?
Bosch lists 6-1/2-inch nested crown capacity and 6-1/2-inch vertical base capacity against the fence. Dual bevel avoids flipping long molding for opposite bevel directions.
Repeatable finish work still depends on a suitable blade, calibrated stops, test pieces and correct crown orientation. Capacity alone does not guarantee tight joints.
Is it a portable jobsite saw?
At 65 pounds before the stand and extraction setup, this is best considered a station tool. If it must move, choose a stand whose capacity and mounting system are explicitly suitable.
The saw does not include a factory cut-line laser or shadow guide. Marking and test-cut workflow therefore matter when approaching a finish line.
Should you buy the Bosch GCM12SD?
It is a rational choice when bench depth and high capacity intersect. Buyers primarily cutting narrow stock or moving between rooms can save space and handling effort with a lighter 10-inch saw.
