For two equal-width pieces meeting symmetrically in one plane, a 92-degree included corner gives a 46-degree physical cut-face angle and a 44-degree setting on a saw whose zero is square. The calculator displays both, rounded to two decimal places. It accepts only non-reflex corners between 0 and 180 degrees.

It does not know stock width, profile, spring angle, bevel, saw zero convention, wall movement, or whether equal miters are appropriate. Those decisions remain part of layout and test fitting.

Confirm whether the scale reports offset from square.

A typical miter saw labels a square crosscut as zero. Its 45-degree detent creates a physical joint face commonly described as 45 degrees for a square frame, but other geometric descriptions may reference the fence or stock direction instead.

Sketch the fence as a baseline, draw the stock, cut face, and finished included corner, then compare that drawing with the manual’s scale illustration. This prevents entering a complementary number in the wrong direction.

Cut two pieces because one face cannot prove a joint.

Use representative scrap long enough for safe hand position and stable registration. Mark left/right, face, and waste, set the disconnected saw, check clearance, then cut both mating orientations.

Bring them together at the measured corner without forcing. If the gap is even, adjust the shared setting by a small amount. If only one end or face gaps, check stock straightness, fence alignment, support, and orientation first.

Use a different method for compound or asymmetric geometry.

Crown molding cut flat combines miter and bevel based on spring angle. Splayed boxes and tapered assemblies add slope. A joint where one member must remain fixed does not divide equally. Use manufacturer tables, full-size layout, or a calculator designed for those inputs.

Even with correct math, the exact saw may lack capacity or safe clamping at the required setting. Change the process or tool instead of lifting stock, removing guards, or exceeding stops.
